EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a letter dated June 14, 2025, and signed by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation called on the President to establish a presidential panel of enquiry to investigate the unlawful annulment of the June 12 election and identify those responsible for the breach of Nigerians’ democratic rights.
SERAP also demanded that the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), be directed to prosecute all individuals implicated in the annulment, irrespective of their political affiliations or current positions.
“These commitments to democracy must be matched with action. The impunity surrounding the annulment of June 12 must end. No one is above the law,” the group stated.
The organisation further urged Tinubu to sponsor an executive bill to amend the Electoral Act 2022, proposing mandatory electronic transmission of results and unrestricted voter access to election documents, in order to boost transparency and trust in the electoral process.
In addition, SERAP called for the immediate discontinuation of all cases against peaceful protesters and the repeal of laws used to suppress free speech, including parts of the Cybercrimes Act and Criminal Code.

While acknowledging the President’s June 12 Democracy Day speech, SERAP said symbolic rhetoric is insufficient without visible reforms. It gave Tinubu a seven-day ultimatum to act or face legal action.
