At the official Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) quoted the naira at ₦1,534/$1 as of the last trading session on Friday, June 14. The rate remains stable amid modest intervention by the apex bank to support liquidity.
Market analysts attribute the consistent spread between official and black-market rates to rising demand for foreign currency, low inflows, and limited access to FX for importers and travellers. Despite ongoing reforms by the Tinubu administration, forex scarcity continues to pressure the naira across all market segments.
Meanwhile, sources at the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment hinted that unless FX supply improves in coming weeks, the black market rate may cross ₦1,630, especially as travel and school fee demands rise in the coming quarter.

For now, the exchange market remains unpredictable, with the CBN yet to implement full liberalisation or unify rates entirely. Citizens are advised to transact through official channels where possible to avoid volatility.
