The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians to celebrate the country’s achievements and promote its positive image instead of focusing solely on negative narratives.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during a visit to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom, Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Ogunro, who was recently sworn in as the Mayor of Islington.

She described Adegoke’s emergence as chairman of the council as another demonstration of the excellence, resilience and leadership qualities of Nigerians living abroad.
During the visit, Ogunro thanked the NiDCOM chairman for the courtesy call and encouraged Nigerians across the world to continue portraying the country positively wherever they reside.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of two Nigerian medical graduates abroad.
She congratulated Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an outstanding 4.90 out of 5.00 CGPA, and Dr Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.
According to her, their achievements reflect the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths and will continue to enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.
She commended the four Nigerians for making the country proud and encouraged other Nigerians in the Diaspora to strive for excellence while serving as worthy ambassadors of the nation.
Dabiri-Erewa stressed that although every country faces challenges, Nigerians should intentionally celebrate the nation’s success stories and the positive contributions of its citizens across the world.

She also noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is implementing reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national development.
The NiDCOM chairman urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to continue supporting the country’s development by contributing their knowledge, investments, skills and international networks.
She reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians abroad whose achievements continue to project the country’s image positively on the global stage.
