Sanwo-Olu noted that Nigeria, like many other nations, faces economic pressure, security concerns, and the demand for inclusive growth, all of which continue to test the country’s resolve.
“So humanity has not found out how to solve a lot of problems without pain,” he said. “In economics, we must operate within principles. When making tough decisions, you must look at what is beneficial to the future of the country.”
He urged citizens to remain patient, steadfast, and trusting in Allah, stressing that the major economic and political reforms currently being implemented would soon yield positive results.
Sanwo-Olu also appealed to Nigerians to reduce negativity in their outlook on the country. While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism, he emphasized that such criticisms should come with practical solutions.
“For example, concerns about the standard of education should go hand in hand with workable suggestions that can help move the nation forward,” he said.
The Governor encouraged parents to embrace new teaching methods and prepare children for a fast-changing world shaped by technology and artificial intelligence, while also grounding them in moral and spiritual values.
Speaking on the significance of the 65th Independence anniversary, Sanwo-Olu described it as a reminder of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and countless citizens who worked and prayed for unity and progress.
In his sermon, Imam Shakiru Ayinde Gafar charged leaders to remain accountable and just, pointing to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as the best example of fairness, simplicity, and universal leadership.

He called on both leaders and citizens to practice daily self-reflection, uphold justice, and live righteously as the path to divine mercy and national prosperity.
Also delivering a goodwill message, Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. AbdulHafiz Toriola, urged Nigerians to have faith in the country.
“We need to change our attitude. We must believe in our country and continue to pray for its progress,” he said.
