The Lagos State Government took decisive action on Saturday, June 14, 2025, sealing a residential property at No. 59 Ajoke Okusanya Street, off Ago Palace Way, in the Okota area for illegally discharging untreated sewage into public drainage.
Officials from the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), operating under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, carried out the enforcement operation.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab released a statement describing the actions as a response to confirmed reports of the building’s occupants channeling waste directly from a septic tank into the environment.
The illegal discharge was deemed a dangerous and unacceptable violation of environmental laws.
“This act constitutes environmental pollution and a threat to public health,” Wahab stated. “It is a flagrant violation of the state’s wastewater management laws and underscores the kind of behaviour the government is determined to eliminate.”

He warned that such actions pose a danger to not only the immediate environment but also to the broader community through water contamination and the spread of disease.
Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations, Wahab declared that the state would persist in clamping down on offenders to protect public health and promote sustainable urban living.
