EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement released on Tuesday, TCN revealed that the grid experienced a partial disturbance at 6:48 PM on Monday. While recovery efforts were underway, the process suffered a setback on Tuesday morning at around 10:24 AM, delaying the full restoration of power.
However, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, assured Nigerians that significant progress had been made. According to Mbah, the recovery of the grid began promptly with the Azura power station taking the lead in restarting the grid. By Tuesday morning, the grid recovery was well advanced, with power restored to about 90% of TCN’s substations nationwide.
Mbah noted that despite the temporary setback on Tuesday, the recovery process has continued, ensuring that most parts of the country now have power. In addition, she confirmed that the Ibom Gas generating station was unaffected by the disturbance. The station remained isolated from the grid and continued to supply power to areas in the South-South region, including Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and the Itu 132kV transmission substation.
“The recovery of the grid commenced immediately after the disturbance, with the Azura power station providing the blackstart,” Mbah said. “Although we encountered a slight challenge at 10:24 AM on Tuesday, the grid recovery has reached an advanced stage, and power is now available to about 90% of our substations nationwide.”
Mbah also added that TCN will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the grid disturbance once full restoration is achieved, ensuring that such incidents are minimized in the future.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Mbah reassured Nigerians that the TCN is committed to completing the grid restoration and stabilizing power supply across the country.
