The Nigerian Railway Corporation has described as innovative and symbolic a historic fellowship held aboard one of its trains by the Rotary Club of Ota, saying the event reflects the growing role of rail transport as a platform for national engagement and development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said the fellowship ride demonstrated how civic groups can creatively use public infrastructure to promote unity, service, and nation-building.

According to the NRC, members of the Rotary Club of Ota gathered on a moving train over the weekend for fellowship, leadership interaction, and strategic discussions centred on humanitarian service, climate action, and sustainable community development.
The event was led by the club’s President, Charles Umukoro, alongside members of the executive council and general membership. Among those present were Vice President Bisi Seleso; Pioneer President Olumide Adebiyi; Treasurer Olumide Omotola; President-elect Fatai Wasi; and the club’s longest-serving member, Dr Kele Abolaji.
The Railway District Manager, Rasheed Adedeji, also joined the Rotarians on board. The NRC described his participation as a reflection of the cordial relationship between the corporation and the service organisation. In a symbolic move, Adedeji was inducted into the Rotary Club of Ota during the event.

Beyond the fellowship, the NRC noted that the club used the occasion to reinforce its commitment to environmental sustainability. The Rotary Club had earlier commenced a large-scale tree-planting campaign on February 28, 2026, aimed at supporting climate change mitigation and protecting host communities.
Unyimadu said the moving-train fellowship symbolised progress and forward thinking, values that align with the transformation drive of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
He added that the corporation remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote national development, environmental sustainability, and community advancement, while positioning the railway system as a safe, modern, and strategic platform for civic engagement.
