Extraordinary Story Behind Oshodi Obadimeji Family’s Historic Sword In Epe
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a historic royal visitation to the Oshodi Obadimeji compound in Epe, Mr. Abolaji Oshodi, the current head of the Oshodi Obadimeji family, unveiled an ancient sword that has been a symbol of power and heritage for generations.
The event highlighted the storied legacy of the Oshodi lineage and their pivotal role in the history of Lagos.
Mr. Oshodi explained the significance of the sword, recounting how it was used by past Oshodi leaders to command and fight.
He emphasized the sword’s formidable power and its revered status, noting that it is traditionally worshipped with blood as part of the family’s rituals.
Tracing the lineage, Mr. Oshodi elaborated on the historical ties between Oshodi Tapa, also known as Olowo Gbowe, and the royal family of Lagos.
He revealed that Oshodi was a chief commandant under King Kosoko and had established strong connections with Kosoko’s father long before Kosoko ascended the throne.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the story was Oshodi’s extraordinary ability to transform into 201 forms, excluding slaves and men, while holding the sword with his toes.
This supernatural feat earned him immense respect from the British, who recognized his power and influence.
King Kosoko, too, held Oshodi in high regard, trusting him implicitly in matters of strategy and security.
Mr. Oshodi shared a particularly significant historical connection, stating that the Oshodi Obadimeji family shares blood ties with Kosoko through Kosoko’s younger sister, Isinyemi, who was given to Oshodi Tapa.
The narrative took a dramatic turn with Mr. Oshodi recounting how Oshodi Tapa informed King Kosoko of a British plot against them.
In a preemptive move, Oshodi single-handedly dismantled the British canons, a bold action that intensified the conflict.
This strategic maneuver led to the British feeling intimidated and ultimately resulted in their confrontation with Kosoko’s forces.
Faced with mounting British aggression, Oshodi advised King Kosoko to leave Lagos.
They sought guidance from Ifa, who directed them to Epe as a safe haven.
Oshodi boldly declared that it was he who led King Kosoko to Epe, ensuring their safety and establishing a new chapter in their legacy.
The royal visitation and Mr. Oshodi’s recounting of these historical events have not only honoured the Oshodi Obadimeji family but also shed light on the rich cultural heritage of Epe and its enduring ties to Lagos’ storied past.
