She received a total of eight academic awards, including the prize for Corporate Law Practice, in recognition of her excellence during the rigorous legal training programme.
Maryam, a proud Lagosian and alumna of Lagos State University (LASU), completed her undergraduate studies at the university’s Faculty of Law. Her impressive performance at the Law School has been hailed as a testament to the growing reputation of LASU as a centre of academic excellence and legal scholarship.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a congratulatory message, described Maryam’s success as a reflection of what is achievable when hard work, talent, and quality education meet.
“This is the kind of excellence we celebrate in Lagos. Maryam represents the best of us in brilliance, hard work, and quiet determination,” the Governor said.

“Her achievement is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent meets discipline. It also reflects the strong academic foundation offered by our state-owned institutions.”
The Nigerian Law School, established in 1962, is a mandatory one-year professional training programme for law graduates in Nigeria before they are called to the Bar. It awards honours to a few outstanding students each year, based on performance in areas such as Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation, Property Law, and Corporate Law Practice.
Maryam Lawal’s recognition among the best nationwide places her in the top percentile of over 5,000 law graduates who sat for the Bar Final Examinations.
Her success has drawn wide acclaim on social media, with many Nigerians praising her discipline, intellect, and the quality of her legal education.
