Competing across the U-11, U-13, and U-15 categories, the Lagos contingent showed dominance in athletics, football, and swimming. Their performance didn’t just earn medals, it placed Lagos firmly on the map as a growing force in youth sports.
At a reception held in their honour, the governor didn’t hide his excitement. He praised the students for their discipline and resilience, describing their achievement as a sign that something special is happening in Lagos.
But beyond the celebration, Sanwo-Olu made it clear that this is only the beginning. He urged the young athletes not to get comfortable, reminding them that bigger opportunities lie ahead if they stay focused and disciplined.
He also spoke about plans to strengthen sports within the school system. According to him, the state government is working on ways to collaborate with schools to build structured inter-school competitions locally, creating more opportunities for students to grow before stepping onto international stages.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of balance. While sports can open doors and build confidence, academics must not take a back seat. The governor encouraged the students to aim for excellence both in the classroom and on the field, describing them as future all-round leaders.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, also commended the athletes. He credited their success to hard work, discipline, and the growing investment in grassroots sports development across the state.

For Lagos, this victory is more than medals. It is a statement that the next generation is ready, and the system is beginning to work.
