The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has partnered with the Nigerian office of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to promote and enhance basketball development across the Lagos metropolis.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the partnership was established following a meeting between Governor Sanwo-Olu and the NBA Nigeria delegation at the State House on Wednesday, August 20.

During the visit, the NBA team presented its strategic roadmap for expanding basketball opportunities in Lagos, focusing on grassroots talent development, improved infrastructure, and youth engagement.
The delegation included former Nigerian-American player and current ESPN basketball analyst, Chiney Ogwumike, alongside other NBA officials who discussed collaborative plans with the governor.

Announcing the partnership on his X handle, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the meeting was highly productive and reaffirmed the vital role sports play in youth development and community building. He noted that the NBA expressed its commitment to growing basketball from the grassroots level and partnering with Lagos State to create lasting impact beyond the game.
The NBA aims to leverage its global network to attract investment, strengthen sports infrastructure, and improve the capacity of coaches and technical personnel. Additionally, the partnership seeks to provide pathways for young athletes, offering opportunities for growth, exposure, and international recognition.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that this collaboration aligns with his administration’s vision of using sports as a tool for empowerment, social development, and economic growth. He expressed confidence that, working together, Lagos can unlock the potential of its youth and cement its position as a hub for sporting excellence.
