The incident took place at Odubanjo Street, Second Carwash, Governor’s Road, Ikotun, where the landlords association had hired the guards.
It was reported that the security guards failed to perform their duties adequately, which enabled the thieves to burgle the shop and escape with the stolen goods.
According to the Police, security guards Kazeem Adewale and Nasiru Orikeye were employed to safeguard the area but allegedly abandoned their posts on December 2, 2024, opting to sleep instead.
This lapse in duty resulted in the street gate being left open, allowing thieves to enter the premises.
During their absence, the thieves reportedly burgled a shop and stole 12 bags of rice, valued at over N1 million, before escaping undetected.
