President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Chief of Naval Operations, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who died on Thursday following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Eko Hot Blog reports that the President conveyed his condolences to the late officer’s family, members of the Nigerian Navy, and the leadership of the Armed Forces.

Tinubu described the rear admiral’s death as a significant loss to both the military and the nation, highlighting his wealth of experience and notable service to the Nigerian Navy and the wider Armed Forces.
During his distinguished career, Katagum held key strategic positions, including Director of the Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre (PC4), and Chief of Naval Intelligence. He was appointed Chief of Naval Operations in November 2025.

The President commended the late officer’s bravery, leadership qualities, and commitment to mentoring younger personnel within the service. He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his loved ones during this difficult period.
According to reports, Katagum passed away in Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment, and was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions.
