Nine inmates of the Zaria Medium Correctional Centre walked into freedom on Wednesday after Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, offset their bail bonds totaling more than N3 million as part of activities to mark his 60th birthday.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the beneficiaries included Ibrahim Dan’asabe (N240,000), Kabir Ibrahim (N180,000), Ibrahim Ahmed (N60,000), Haruna Musa (N350,000), Aliyu Tukur (N390,000), Prince Wadilor Wodu (N326,000), Mustapha Abubakar (N410,000), Sagir Sani (N685,000) and Shehu Abubakar (N440,000).

The Speaker also extended his philanthropy to the Kuje Custodial Centre, Abuja, where he paid registration fees for 100 inmates to sit for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB). Out of the total, 57 will sit for NABTEB while 43 are registered for NECO.
Abbas, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative), Chamberlain Dunkwu, described education as central to rehabilitation and second chances.
“Conviction is not condemnation. Every life, when given the right opportunity, can be transformed,” he said.
The Speaker’s 60th birthday outreach also included:
A N1m cash gift to Chikwendu Hart, an inmate pursuing a doctorate at the National Open University of Nigeria.
Donation of over 1,000 bags of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Kabusa Camp, Abuja.

Mrs. Fatima Abbas described her husband as “a patriotic leader, a caring husband, and a humble prince of the Zazzau Emirate,” while House Committee Chairman on Nutrition and Food Security, Chike Okafor, hailed him as “a national asset.”
For Abbas, the milestone celebration was not about personal grandeur but, in his words, about “extending hope, giving second chances, and reaffirming the dignity of every Nigerian, especially the vulnerable.”
