Mid-season signing, Sodiq Ibrahim, emerged as the star of the show, netting a brace after Yusuf Ibrahim had given Sunshine Stars the lead. For Plateau United, Albert Hilary scored his 11th goal of the season, but it proved to be a mere consolation.
The game started with Plateau United’s goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso, making three crucial saves to deny Promise Awosanmi and Yusuf Ibrahim in the opening stages. However, Yusuf Ibrahim eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, giving Sunshine Stars the lead.
Eight minutes later, Sodiq Ibrahim finished off a superb team move to double the hosts’ advantage, making it 2-0.
After the restart, substitute Albert Hilary came off the bench and reduced the deficit with a long-range effort in the 58th minute, giving Plateau United a glimmer of hope.
The visitors were unable to capitalize on the momentum, however, as Sodiq Ibrahim struck again in the closing stages, restoring Sunshine Stars’ two-goal cushion and securing a 3-1 victory.
The win marks Kennedy Boboye’s side’s second victory in their last three games, as they now turn their attention to their upcoming home fixture against Katsina United on Wednesday.
