Eko Hot Blog reports that the gathering brought together religious leaders, public office holders, family members, and residents who assembled to honor the legacy of the late Mrs. Taibat Garbadeen while embracing the deeper essence of the holy month of Ramadan.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Sheikh Daud Al-Aruudy, Chief Imam of Alausa Police Barracks, Ikeja, centered his message on accountability, life after death, and the enduring reward of good deeds.
He reminded attendees that “the reward awaiting every individual after death is determined by their actions while on earth.”
Reflecting on the life of the late matriarch, he stated that “the good works of Mrs. Taibat Garbadeen are still speaking for her even after her death,” noting that her generosity continues to manifest through her children who sustain charitable initiatives annually in her memory.
According to him, consistent acts of kindness create a legacy that transcends mortality.
He urged both Muslims and Christians to be mindful of their conduct, stressing that “everyone must remain prayerful and conscious of their behavior because judgment awaits all.”
He emphasized that faith must be reflected not only in worship but also in character, compassion, and service to humanity.
Hon. Olabode Garbadeen, speaking on behalf of the family, gave an emotional tribute to their late mother.
He described her as selfless, compassionate, and deeply committed to uplifting others. According to him, “our mother was always giving to people around her and even sponsored the education of some people we did not even know about.”
He revealed that she sacrificed her own educational ambitions to support her younger siblings, explaining that “she forfeited her own education so that her siblings could succeed.”
Despite her limited formal education, he noted that “she is blessed with God-fearing and well-to-do children who continue her legacy.”
Speaking on Ramadan, he stated that “Ramadan is a period to retract one’s steps and change for the better; it is also a time to help the needy, but charity should begin from home.”
He encouraged adherents of both Islam and Christianity to use the sacred season to draw closer to God, strengthen family bonds, and extend meaningful support to vulnerable members of society.
Mrs. Kemi Adedeji Garbadeen expressed gratitude for both the successful event and her recent career advancement. She declared, “I thank God for blessing me with the promotion to TG/PS,” while encouraging sustained commitment to spiritual gatherings that inspire growth and unity.
She reminded participants not to take the Ramadan period lightly, describing it as a divine opportunity for renewal and elevation.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Saliu, highlighted the spiritual relevance of such assemblies, noting that “programs like this during Ramadan nourish the soul and help people retrace their steps to walk in the path that pleases God.”
He further urged Christians and Muslims to maximize both the Ramadan and Lenten seasons, emphasizing that “this is a period to consciously do the will of God and reflect on our daily conduct.”
The event featured prayers, reflections, goodwill messages, and the breaking of fast, reinforcing the foundation’s mission of faith-driven charity and community development.
Through this annual lecture and Iftar session, the Taibat Garbadeen Foodbank Foundation once again reaffirmed its dedication to preserving a legacy of generosity, promoting interfaith harmony, and fostering a culture of compassion and accountability within the Epe community.
