The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming basic education in Nigeria. Speaking at the Quarterly Meeting of UBEC Management and Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) in Abuja, the Minister emphasized the need for improving teacher quality, upgrading school infrastructure, and securing sustainable funding to enhance education delivery nationwide.
Addressing key stakeholders, including the newly appointed UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, Dr. Alausa stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration among federal and state education bodies to achieve lasting reforms. He highlighted the urgent need to reduce the number of out-of-school children, improve teaching standards, and provide modern learning resources.
To tackle these challenges, the Minister announced the establishment of a special committee to categorize schools across the country, identifying areas where interventions are most needed. He reaffirmed that these efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Education for Renewed Hope” agenda, which prioritizes skills development, innovation, and inclusivity in education.
Dr. Alausa also urged State Governments to take greater responsibility for implementing reforms, emphasizing that collaborative efforts and alternative funding strategies will be essential to sustain improvements in the sector.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s dedication to supporting states, he assured stakeholders that education remains a top priority for the administration. He encouraged exchange of best practices among SUBEBs and commended Aisha Garba for her leadership in advancing UBEC’s mission.
