The protesters were met by a large crowd of anti-racism activists, sparking brief but heated confrontations before police moved in to separate both groups.
Security personnel arrested several individuals during the face-off. One of the demonstrators, Brendan O’Reilly, 66, claimed the UK was full of immigrants and accused the government of ignoring homeless citizens in favour of asylum seekers.

“We have people sleeping on the streets while hotels are being given to migrants,” he said.
On the other side, counter-protester Judy, a 60-year-old retired nurse, said she joined the protest to challenge what she called hate-driven rhetoric.
“I’m here because I don’t want to see Manchester taken over by bigotry. You have to ask — is it all migrants they want gone, or just those with brown skin?” she questioned.
Meanwhile, in central London, similar tensions flared outside a hotel in the Barbican area, which currently houses asylum seekers. Rival protest groups confronted each other before law enforcement stepped in. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that nine people were arrested, including seven for violating conditions under the Public Order Act.
The force wrote on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that some protesters were removed for blocking roads against police instructions.
