According to preliminary findings, the incident began when a heavily loaded truck, allegedly speeding, rammed into one of the vehicles from behind. The impact caused the car to veer out of control, triggering a chain reaction that led to collisions with two other moving vehicles.
In a disturbing turn, the truck driver reportedly fled the scene with his vehicle immediately after the crash, abandoning the victims and evading arrest.
LASTMA officials, who arrived early, worked with multiple emergency agencies to rescue survivors and recover the bodies. Two victims trapped in the wreckage were extricated and taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical treatment, while the deceased family members were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).

The injured survivors were rushed to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre, Toll Gate, for advanced care.
Security personnel from the Isheri Olowora Police Division provided protection during the rescue, as LASTMA officers cleared the accident vehicles to prevent a secondary crash.
The response involved a coordinated effort from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), LASAMBUS, SEHMU, and the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the deaths of the parents and their young child as “unbearable and irreplaceable,” expressing deep sorrow and praying for strength for the bereaved family.
He also wished the injured victims a swift recovery and commended responders for their quick and professional intervention.
Bakare-Oki condemned the incident as avoidable, blaming excessive speeding particularly by articulated trucks for many road tragedies. He urged motorists to strictly adhere to speed limits and embrace defensive driving.
He assured Lagosians that LASTMA would intensify traffic monitoring, enforce speed regulations, and continue collaborating with security and emergency agencies to prevent similar occurrences.
