The high-profile political gathering took place in Abuja on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
In an official communiqué issued after the meeting, the party leadership stated that El-Rufai is a victim of political persecution.
The document was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi. The resolution is expected to trigger intense national debate due to El-Rufai’s prominence.
It also highlights his recent alignment with opposition political coalitions aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Beyond the immediate demand for El-Rufai’s freedom, the ADC’s highest decision-making organ outside the national convention took critical steps to solidify its internal operations.

The NEC approved the results of its recently conducted primary elections for the State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship, and presidential slots. However, the party clarified that this approval excludes any specific contests with active or pending appeals as of May 29, 2026.
To maintain administrative continuity through the upcoming election cycle, the NEC approved a one-year tenure extension for the current National Working Committee (NWC).
The committee also approved the establishment of caretaker committees at the zonal, state, local government, and ward levels for a matching 12-month period.
These organizational changes follow a call to action by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark. Mark urged party members to remain united to position the ADC as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
