He was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Alh Muhammadu Mamman.
The minister explained that the administration of President Bola Tinubu started by doing things differently to ensure grid stability and reduce power outages across the country. He added that the creation of NISO was a major step by the Federal Government to change how the sector operates and drive better outcomes.
Nigeria has experienced frequent grid collapses caused by ageing and poorly managed infrastructure, lack of funding and vandalism. These problems have led to widespread blackouts that affect businesses and households forcing many to depend on generators.

Adelabu said that since the beginning of the present administration significant changes have been introduced to stabilise the system.
He noted that the maiden NISO retreat provides an opportunity for the organisation to engage and adopt new approaches that will support stable electricity supply for Nigerians.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of NISO Dr Adesegun Akin Olugbade praised the staff of NISO for their commitment especially their role in the successful synchronisation of the Nigerian grid with the West African Power Pool WAPP.
He described the effort as a major achievement noting that the synchronisation enabled the grids of Nigeria Niger Benin and Togo to operate with the rest of West Africa from Nigeria to Mauritania at a single frequency for four uninterrupted hours.
The Managing Director of NISO Abdul Mohammed explained that the power sector requires heavy and consistent investments which Nigeria has not made over the years.
He said that the government has not committed the level of resources needed to make the grid fully reliable which is why NISO was created to attract private sector investment while improving the utilisation of existing infrastructure.
He stressed that the power business is extremely capital intensive and that other countries that enjoy stable electricity spend huge amounts annually to maintain and expand their grids. He assured that NISO is working to complement government efforts and improve outcomes going forward.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State Umo Eno represented by the Commissioner of Power Iniobong Robson commended NISO for its achievements. He said the organisation has demonstrated discipline and clarity of purpose since its establishment and continues to contribute significantly to the stability of the nations power system.
