President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his assent to three bills sponsored by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, establishing the Federal College of Education in Bende, Abia State; the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Bende, Abia State; and the Federal University of Okigwe in Imo State.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Federal College of Education in Bende will offer a comprehensive range of courses, including technology, applied sciences, commerce, arts, social sciences, humanities, and management.
The college will also conduct research in the development and adaptation of techniques, providing opportunities for students to develop practical skills in their chosen fields.
The Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Bende, Abia State, will focus on providing high-quality medical education and training in various health-related disciplines, as well as conducting research in medical sciences, health policy, and healthcare delivery.
“Essentially, the University is expected to improve human health and well-being through education, research, and service delivery.
“The proposed Federal University Okigwe, Imo State, will also provide quality education, research opportunities, and cater to the educational needs of the people,” Nwabughiogu said.
In his reaction, Kalu expressed his gratitude to the President for his support of the initiatives. He also acknowledged the Senate, his House of Representatives colleagues, and the people of Nigeria for their unwavering backing throughout the process.
The Deputy Speaker emphasized the significance of the institution in promoting education and development in the Southeast region.
He further encouraged the people of the Southeast to continue supporting the Tinubu-led government as he pledges to secure more democracy dividends for the region.
