Eko Hot Blog reports that President Bola Tinubu has departed Nigeria for the United States to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This will be Tinubu’s first UNGA meeting since he assumed office as president in May.

Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders, including the President of the United States Joe Biden, and Von der Leyen, president of the European Union Commission, on the sidelines of the summit. He will also deliver his inaugural national statement on the floor of the UN headquarters on September 19.

In addition, Tinubu will address American business leaders at the US Chamber of Commerce and conduct the NASDAQ closing ceremony. He will be the first African president to do so.

The theme for this year’s UNGA is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 agenda and its sustainable development goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”

Tinubu’s attendance at the UNGA is an important opportunity for him to represent Nigeria on the global stage and to advance his administration’s priorities. His bilateral meetings with world leaders will provide an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest, such as trade, investment, and security. His address to the UNGA will be an opportunity to outline his vision for Nigeria and to call on the international community to support his country’s development goals.

Tinubu’s address to the US Chamber of Commerce and his participation in the NASDAQ closing ceremony are also significant events. They demonstrate his commitment to attracting foreign investment to Nigeria and to promoting the country’s digital economy.

Overall, Tinubu’s trip to the US for the UNGA is a significant opportunity for him to advance his administration’s priorities and to promote Nigeria on the global stage.
