President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the construction of the access road linking Tungan Madaki to the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway at Zuba, describing the project as part of his administration’s broader plan to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and enhance the quality of life in communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Eko Hot Blog reports.
Represented by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, at the groundbreaking ceremony, Tinubu said the new road extends the recently completed Bill Clinton Drive–Tungan Madaki road and reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure beyond Abuja’s city centre.

The President said the project is aimed at creating an interconnected road network that would unlock development opportunities across the territory.
“What began as one road is now growing into a network, and that is how real development takes root,” Tinubu said.
He noted that communities such as Tungan Madaki and Zuba, which are home to farmers, traders and students, deserve the same level of infrastructure as residents within the capital city.
According to him, the road will improve access to rural communities, reduce transportation costs, strengthen food supply chains and enhance security by enabling faster emergency and security responses.
“When farmlands are opened, food becomes cheaper in our markets. When communities are connected, young people have more reason to build enterprises at home. When response time for security agencies improves, our people are safer. Infrastructure is not just concrete and asphalt. It is the bridge between potential and prosperity, and that is the core of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Tinubu described the project as a strategic component of the FCT Master Plan, explaining that it would help decongest the city centre, provide alternative routes for motorists and strengthen the economic corridor linking Abuja with Kaduna and the North-West.
He added that the road would also encourage investments in housing, healthcare, education and industrial development along the corridor.
The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration for prioritising infrastructure development and delivering projects across the territory.
He urged the contractor to complete the project on schedule, maintain high-quality standards and employ local workers during construction, while appealing to residents to protect the infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that the project was not originally included among the roads scheduled for inauguration to mark Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
According to him, the project was added after the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Kassim, appealed for the extension of the road from Tungan Madaki to Zuba.
Wike described the request as an example of effective leadership and said the project aligns with President Tinubu’s directive to connect satellite towns with Abuja city and with one another.
He also praised residents of Tungan Madaki for supporting the project and directed the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to complete the road by December so it can be commissioned as a Christmas gift to the benefiting communities.
Earlier, the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive development by improving access to infrastructure, creating economic opportunities and raising the standard of living for residents.
She commended Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for accelerating infrastructure development across the FCT and praised Wike’s leadership in driving project implementation.
Providing a technical overview, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yunana Dauda, said the project would extend the existing seven-kilometre Bill Clinton Drive–Tungan Madaki road by another seven kilometres to connect Tungan Madaki with Zuba.
He explained that the road would serve several communities, including Tungan Wakili, Anguwan Lasheri, Tungan Jiwa, Tungan Nasara, Tungan Samu, Amawa and Jima.
Dauda added that the project would provide an alternative route to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for travellers from Zuba, Kaduna and Kogi State, while opening up agricultural communities, creating jobs, reducing travel time and improving security.
