Elderly residents of Oyo State on Tuesday benefited from financial assistance and free medical services as the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) entered its third phase in the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the programme, spearheaded by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, featured a ₦50 million intervention aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens and was held at the Local Government Training School in Ibadan.

The First Lady, who chairs the Renewed Hope Initiative, was represented at the event by the wife of the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Mrs Ajibike Lawal. A total of 250 beneficiaries aged 65 and above were selected across the state.

Addressing participants, Senator Tinubu said the initiative was designed to reassure elderly Nigerians that their contributions to national development are recognised and valued, particularly during the festive period.
She explained that the Oyo intervention forms part of a ₦1.9 billion nationwide disbursement under the scheme, with each beneficiary receiving ₦200,000 alongside access to health screenings and essential medical care.

Officials of the Oyo State Government commended the programme, describing it as a clear demonstration of compassionate governance, while beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely support and healthcare services.
