- Nigeria needs a completely new constitution to solve issues like insecurity
- Ezekwesili urged the media to advocate for a constitutional conference
Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has criticized the National Assembly’s ongoing efforts to amend the constitution, calling it a “charade” and a waste of public funds.
She argues that these changes will not solve the country’s deep-seated problems of inequality and lack of balance, EKO HOT BLOG, reports.

Ezekwesili believes that what Nigeria truly needs is a completely new constitution that puts the sharing of powers first and ensures justice, fairness, and equality for everyone. She says this would help solve major issues like calls for secession, insecurity, unemployment, and poverty using the analogy of a building with a weak foundation, suggesting it’s better to build a new one from scratch than to keep making small, ineffective repairs.

She also called on the media to lead the effort in demanding a constitutional conference. She believes this would be a forum for Nigerians to have open discussions and vote on a new constitution through a referendum, similar to what Kenya did.
She also expressed her disappointment that politics in Nigeria and Africa as a whole has been taken over by a “criminal enterprise gang” that only serves its own selfish interests, not the interests of the public.
