Tinubu made the announcement on Saturday during the public presentation of three books written in honour of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), as part of activities marking his 84th birthday.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event held in Abuja, Tinubu described the proposed resource centre as a worthy initiative that reflects the values and ideals Abdulsalami has championed throughout his distinguished public life.
“The establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar African Resource Centre is a worthy initiative that aligns with the values General Abdulsalami Abubakar has championed throughout his life,” the President said.
“In recognition of its importance, I hereby direct the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to allocate a very huge piece of land within the Federal Capital Territory along the Airport Road for the development of the centre and the advancement of its mission.”
Tinubu further disclosed that he had reviewed the architectural design for the project and approved federal support for its construction.
Reflecting on Abdulsalami’s contributions to Nigeria, the President described him as a leader who demonstrated restraint, integrity and a deep sense of duty while serving the nation.

“As we celebrate your remarkable life and legacy, we are reminded that nations are built not merely by those who hold power, but by those who exercise it with restraint, integrity and a sense of duty to future generations,” he said.
The President also commended the authors of the books unveiled at the event, noting that their work would help preserve an important chapter of Nigeria’s history for future generations.
The event, themed “The Legacy of a Statesman @84,” featured the presentation of three publications: Call of Duty: An Autobiography of Gen. Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar; Nigeria’s Grand Patriot: Gen. Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar; and Mediating for Peace in Africa: A Festschrift in Honour of Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, chaired the occasion, while former South African President Thabo Mbeki delivered a keynote lecture on democratic transition and peacebuilding in Africa.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar is widely recognised for overseeing Nigeria’s transition from military rule to democracy, culminating in the handover of power to Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 1999.
