Vice President Alckmin highlighted Brazil’s commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria, noting that the opportunities for collaboration are substantial and must be leveraged. He added that beyond economic and political cooperation, Nigeria and Brazil share a common vision for an inclusive new world.
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, stressed the importance of closer cooperation among Global South countries, particularly in light of declining global funding and a shift toward protectionist policies:
“This is a time for the Global South to trade more with each other. We live in an era where a rules-based economy is now influenced by new tariff regimes. This makes it essential for Nigeria and Brazil to increase trade with one another.”

Edun also highlighted the economic reforms under President Tinubu’s administration, which have stabilised the exchange rate, boosted foreign reserves, and created a favourable environment for private sector investment:
“In recent years, President Tinubu has implemented reforms that have brought macroeconomic stability, providing opportunities for the private sector,” he said.
The discussions underline Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen South-South economic partnerships and diversify trade relations beyond traditional Western allies.
On Monday, President Tinubu met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to explore further cooperation in agriculture, energy, culture, and trade.
