The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has spotlighted significant achievements of the Bola Tinubu administration, saying the South‑East region is finally benefiting from federal interventions after decades of neglect.

He pointed to the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the introduction of federal tertiary institutions in the region and the launch of major infrastructure projects as signs of inclusion and commitment.

Kalu emphasised that the SEDC, now fully operational with a confirmed board and executive management, marks a turning point for a region that has long sought dedicated federal focus.
He noted that the agency’s role in rehabilitation, reconstruction and reintegration will accelerate post‑conflict development.
He referenced the approval of federal tertiary institutions in Bende (Abia State), Item (?), and Okigwe (Imo State) as concrete efforts to expand access to higher education for young people in the South‑East.
He also listed investment figures tied to the administration, noting new foreign direct investment, improved revenue generation and macroeconomic stabilisation.

According to Kalu, the administration’s shift toward leveraging the region’s assets, its youth workforce, commercial hubs like Aba and Onitsha, and infrastructure links to northern markets has unlocked new economic potential.
He encouraged the South‑East to engage actively with the national agenda, noting that despite existing challenges, the region’s economic role in the country is expanding.
He called for continued collaboration, effective implementation of the policies and awareness‑raising so the people of the South‑East can fully benefit.
