As part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, the Federal Government held a special thanksgiving service on Sunday at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, dedicating the event to prayers and gratitude for the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the interdenominational service brought together prominent government officials, legislators, and security chiefs.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio attended alongside his wife, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, was also present with his spouse.
Others in attendance included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Plateau State Governor, Senator Simon Lalong.
The military and paramilitary leadership was also well represented. Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led the service chiefs, which included Chief of Naval Staff Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Comptroller-General of Immigration Mrs. Kemi Nandap, and Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, among others.
The thanksgiving service came shortly after the unveiling of the official theme for the 65th anniversary celebrations: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.” The announcement was made by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the SGF, who also outlined the schedule of events.
According to the programme, the Juma’at Prayer was held on Friday, September 26, while the interdenominational thanksgiving service followed on Sunday, September 28. A World Press Conference has been slated for Monday, September 29, as part of the commemorative activities.

In another vein, President Bola Tinubu, along with former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Goodluck Jonathan, will participate in a national discourse hosted by the Island Club, Lagos, on October 2. The event will take place at the iconic Peacock Hall.
