League officials stated that the Toronto Raptors player not only wagered on his own team to lose but also manipulated his performance to tilt the odds in his favor.
Allegations surfaced that the 24-year-old shared confidential health information with at least one known bettor. Additionally, it was claimed that another bettor known to Porter placed an $80K wager on Porter “underperforming” in the Raptors’ March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings.

The league revealed that the bettor stood to gain $1.1 MILLION if the wager proved successful. NBA officials noted that Porter exited the game prematurely citing illness. However, due to the “unusual betting activity,” the league stated that the bet was “frozen” and not paid out.
Furthermore, NBA investigators discovered that during Porter’s tenure with both the Raptors and their G-League affiliate from January through March, he placed “at least 13 bets on NBA games.”
Porter allegedly utilized an associate’s online betting account for the wagers and accumulated over $20,000 in profits. “None of the bets were placed on games in which Porter played,” the league stated. “Three of the bets were multi-game parlay bets involving one Raptors game, where Porter bet against the team’s victory. All three bets ended in losses.”
The NBA affirmed their cooperation with federal authorities and pledged to pursue further investigations into Porter, promising to share any new discoveries. “Protecting the integrity of NBA competition is paramount for our fans, teams, and all involved in our sport,” the NBA stated. “Jontay Porter’s clear breaches of our gaming regulations warrant the harshest repercussions.”
