Trump Announces $600 Million in Free Legal Services from Five Law Firms

President Donald Trump announced that five major law firms have committed to providing at least $600 million worth of pro bono legal work in support of causes aligned with his administration.
According to the president, four of the firms — Kirkland & Ellis, Allen Overy Shearman Sterling US, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, and Latham & Watkins — have each pledged $125 million in services. An additional agreement with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft brings the total to at least $600 million.
These legal services will focus on issues such as supporting veterans, combating antisemitism, and promoting what Trump describes as fairness in the justice system.
All five firms have also agreed to avoid what the administration calls “illegal DEI discrimination and preferences,” promising instead to follow a merit-based hiring approach. Additionally, they committed to not denying representation based on the political beliefs of individual attorneys.

Trump noted that as a result of these agreements, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has withdrawn prior letters sent to four of the firms in March and will not pursue related claims.
