Trump Warns Iran of ‘Dire Consequences’ Over Houthi Attacks

- Trump accuses Iran of directing Houthi attacks and supplying weapons.
- U.S. airstrikes on Houthis killed at least 53, with more expected.
- Iran silent on Trump’s warning, as tensions rise over Red Sea clashes.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday directly linked Yemen’s Houthi rebels to their key backer, Iran, warning that Tehran would “suffer the consequences” if further attacks by the group continue.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump intensified his administration’s air campaign against the Houthis, which has already killed at least 53 people over the weekend and appears set to escalate. Meanwhile, Iran is reportedly deliberating its response to a letter from Trump last week seeking to revive negotiations over its fast-advancing nuclear program.

Labeling the Houthis as “sinister mobsters and thugs,” Trump declared that any aggression from the group would be met with “great force,” adding that “there is no guarantee that force will stop there.”
Trump accused Iran of orchestrating the Houthis’ actions, rejecting Tehran’s attempts to distance itself from the rebels. “Iran has played ‘the innocent victim’ of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control,” Trump wrote. “They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated military equipment, and even so-called ‘intelligence.’”
The post came after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard chief attempted to distance Tehran from recent Houthi attacks. Over the weekend, the Houthis targeted the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea with drones and missiles, though none reached the vessel, which continues flight operations in the region.

Iran has yet to respond publicly to Trump’s remarks.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN,” Trump said. “IRAN will be held responsible and suffer the consequences—and those consequences will be dire.”
