Tunji Alausa Hails Orelope-Adefulire As OSSP-SDG Transfers 14 MCC Facilities To Health Ministry

• The Maternal and Childcare centres were previously under the supervision of the OSSP-SDG.

• However, the office has handed over the facilities to the health ministry.

• The federal government says the move is aimed at reducing maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate, and under-five mortality rate in Nigeria.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Federal Ministry of Health has received 14 80-100 bedded and equipped Maternal and Childcare (MCC) facilities donated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ministry disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday.

It noted that the receipt of the 14 healthcare centres came amid the federal government’s ongoing effort towards achieving the goals of reducing maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate, and under-five mortality rate in Nigeria

“Although some progress has been made to reduce under-five mortality and infant mortality rates, Nigeria still contributes to roughly 20% of global maternal mortality rates,” the health ministry stated.

The ministry said the newly constructed buildings will play a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services to mothers and children, contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare infrastructure in the country.

“The buildings will be operated under our Federal Teaching Hospitals and Federal Medical Centres (FMC) across the country (see list below) and will enhance our capacity to deliver comprehensive and meaningful healthcare to Nigerians,” the statement reads in part.

“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare expresses gratitude to the OSSAP-SDG and acknowledges the importance of inter-governmental relationships and partnerships in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.

“This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasising his commitment to delivering quality healthcare to Nigerian citizens.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commended Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP on SDG) for her dedication and efforts in making this collaboration a reality.

“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare looks forward to the positive impact these MCC and 80-100 facilities will have on the health outcomes of the nation, as well as the continued success of such partnerships in the future,” the statement added.

The 14 MCC facilities include an 80-Bed Hospital in Bauchi LGA, Bauchi assigned to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, 80-Bed Hospital in Ugbuwangue, Warri South LGA, Delta State assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, 80-Bed Hospital in Oleh, Isoko South LGA, Delta State attached to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), 80-Bed Hospital on Jarnai Road, Wase Plateau State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Wase, Plateau State, and the ⁠100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC), Kaura, Jigawa State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kudu.

Others are a 100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Tsamiya Bagudo, Kebbi State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kebbi, 100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Tofa LGA, Kano State, assigned to thenFederal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Dawanau, Kano State, 80-Bed Hospital Wuro, Jalingo, Taraba State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, 100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Ifon, Ose LGA, Ondo State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, and the 100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Makurdi, Benue State, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi.

Others are the 100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Ugwunago Iga, assigned to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, the ⁠100-Bed Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Ikenna, Ogun State assigned to the Ogun State Government, 100-Bed Mother and Child Centre (MCC), Abonde Ona-Ara, Ibadan, assigned to the Oyo State University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and ⁠80-Bed Hospital in Okutu Ikang Okoyong LGA, assigned to the Cross River Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
