Tunji Alausa Tours Lagos COVID-19 Response Facilities, Pledges Support For Healthcare System
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Thursday, January 4, 2024, took a tour of the Mainland General Hospital, formerly Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Yaba, Lagos State.
The tour was reportedly driven by a desire to witness the nerve center of Lagos State’s COVID response.
The health minister was accompanied by the Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, as he explored critical facilities, including the Lagos State BSL3 Biobank and the upcoming site earmarked for the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI).
During the visit, the federal and state officials discussed the indispensable need to perpetually equip Lagos and Nigeria with pandemic-ready infrastructure.
According to a readout of the meeting, Dr. Alausa and Prof. Abayomi laid emphasis on fostering federal and subnational synergy, highlighting the pivotal role of collaboration in bolstering the nation’s healthcare apparatus.
The health minister commended the COVID Incident Commander and Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for fortifying Lagos, a global gateway susceptible to the transmission of perilous pathogens.
He also hailed the governor’s foresight in spearheading efforts to construct a bioshield safeguarding the state’s economy.
Assuring support and encouragement, Dr. Alausa pledged solidarity with Lagos State’s endeavors, underscoring the importance of unified efforts in fortifying the region against potential health crises.
The minister’s visit underscores the pivotal role of strategic partnerships and proactive measures in fortifying Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, especially in light of the ongoing global health challenges.
