The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the brutal killing of a motorcycle rider, whose body was dumped inside a soakaway in Sabon Birni town.
Eko hot blog reports that the disturbing incident occurred on the night of Saturday, 5 July, 2025. According to the police, Ashiru Iliyasu and Sulaiman Salihu, both residents of Sabon Birni, allegedly conspired to lure the victim, Kasimu Yahaya, to an uncompleted building on the outskirts of the town under false pretences.

Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly attacked the rider with a hoe, killing him on the spot. The body was then disposed of in a soakaway pit at the crime scene in an attempt to conceal the evidence.
The suspects allegedly stole the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle and sold it to one Sanusi Shu’aibu, another resident of Sabon Birni. Police investigations led to the arrest of all three suspects.
“During interrogation, the first two suspects (Iliyasu and Salihu) confessed to their involvement in the conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide of Kasimu Yahaya,” the Command’s statement read.

However, the third suspect, Shu’aibu, reportedly denied knowingly purchasing stolen property.
The case is currently under active investigation by the Anti-Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The Command says it is working to gather further evidence and verify the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have called on members of the public who may have useful information regarding the movements of the suspects or the victim on the day of the incident to come forward. Information can be provided confidentially through any police station or via the command’s hotlines.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice and urged the public to remain vigilant, especially when commuting at night.
