Ukraine has detained its army’s chief psychiatrist on allegations of “illegal enrichment,” accusing him of amassing over $1 million (£813,000) in undeclared assets since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced.
The unnamed official, reportedly part of a commission assessing fitness for military service, is believed to own multiple luxury properties, including three apartments near Kyiv, one in Odesa, two plots of land, and several BMW vehicles. Investigators also uncovered $152,000 (£124,000) and €34,000 in cash during a search of his home.

The assets, registered under family members and associates, were not declared as required. He faces charges of illegal enrichment and filing a false declaration, carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence.
The official, identified in past reports as Oleh Druz, was involved in a similar scandal in 2017, when he allegedly failed to declare properties and vehicles, leading to his suspension.
This case is part of Ukraine’s broader anti-corruption efforts. In recent years, numerous officials, including MPs and military conscription officers, have faced charges for embezzlement and bribery, prompting reforms like the abolition of military medical commissions.
