A total of two hundred and three students were awarded doctor of philosophy degrees at the 55th convocation ceremony of the university of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba Lagos State.

The ceremony got to a climax during the grand finale held on Thursday 16th January 2025.
The convocation ceremony of the 2023/2024 academic session began on the 13th of January, awarding academic degrees to various departments in the graduate and post graduate degrees in the institution.

Ekohotblog reliably gathered that, the university had recorded the highest number of doctors of philosophy degree graduates since its inception.
The 55th convocation ceremony made a difference of forty eight degrees of philosophy awarded compared to the 54th convocation last year.

Dr. Adetoun Alaba Akintoye was recognized by the University’s vice chancellor, Professor Folashade Tolulope Ogunsola and the institution as the Overall best Ph.D thesis student, obtaining her Ph.D in Chemistry with a perfect cumulative grade point average of 5:0.

Dr Adetoun Alaba Akintoye, who was the cynosure at the convocation ceremony and first ever recipient of the award in the department of chemistry, described her Sucess as a blend of passion, hardwork and divine intervention, recalling how tedious the process was and how she envisioned herself attaining this height.

Attributing her Success story, she advised her Prospective PhD candidate to be steadfast and dedicated to their studies.
She said “ you don’t have to be phenomenal instead have a clear goal break it into achievable chunks, get a good mentor, collaborate, innovate and surround yourself with the right people,” she said.
She further appreciated professional bodies and individuals who have impacted her academic journey in terms of grants, scholarships and others.
