EKO HOT BLOG reports that in addition, 100 Imo State students currently enrolled at the Nigerian Law School will receive ₦500,000 each to help cushion the impact of rising living costs and other financial challenges.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Owerri.
According to Emelumba, Governor Uzodimma approved the financial support after considering the difficult circumstances facing both groups of beneficiaries.
He explained that the law students had appealed to the governor for assistance due to the increasing cost of living and the financial burden associated with legal education.
“The law students made a passionate appeal to His Excellency to support them to cushion the global inflation as regards the cost of living. As a caring father, he responded promptly,” Emelumba said.
The commissioner noted that the governor viewed the request as both urgent and necessary, stressing the importance of supporting young Imo indigenes pursuing professional careers.
Speaking on the support for the South Africa returnees, Emelumba said the governor approved the intervention out of concern for citizens who had undergone difficult experiences abroad and needed assistance to restart their lives.
He explained that the ₦1 million allocation for each of the 250 returnees was designed as a reintegration fund to help them settle and become productive members of society once again.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the shared prosperity agenda of the Uzodimma administration, which places priority on both infrastructure development and the welfare of citizens.
Emelumba added that the governor has consistently demonstrated commitment to education, youth development and social support programmes, noting that many of the law students are already beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship scheme.
“Most of them are on the scholarship list of the state government, and from time to time, the governor extends a helping hand to them,” he said.

250 South Africa returnees will receive ₦1 million each.
He described the latest approval as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Imo citizens both within and outside the state.
