In the move to curb roadside trading in Oyo State, the Executive Governor, Seyi Makinde, has decided to reduce rent of shops for traders at the Scout Camp market.
This development followed an unscheduled visit by the governor to the market on Wednesday to have an interactive session with the traders on why they preferred to trade along roadside despite the dangers attached to it.
It was gathered that the Scout Camp market has been shut since its completion without any trader using the modernized market. The traders allegedly revealed that they could not afford the rent of the modernized market.
In the wake to deliver the dividend of good governance to the people of the state, Governor makinde announced the reduction in rent of shops in the modernized market.
Makinde noted that the aim of the rent reduction was to encourage the traders move away from roadsides and utilize the modern market. Adding that, it would also help reduced the traffic jam in the area.
The Governor disclosed this via a tweet on Saturday through his official twitter handle @seyimakinde.
Makinde promised the traders that his administration would provide more amenities that would facilitate businesses in the market.
His tweet reads “On Wednesday morning, we paid an unscheduled visit to Scout Camp market to speak to the traders & find out why they have abandoned the market to trade on the roadside. Following a subsequent meeting with the traders, we decided to reduce the rent in both lock-up and open stalls.
“The rent reduction is to encourage the traders to utilise the market stalls and stop trading on the roadside, for their safety, and for ensuring the free flow of traffic is not hindered by the roadside trading. I also promised to provide the necessary amenities in the market.”
