- The Abdurahman Mohammed-led faction of the PDP has clarified that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was never suspended, stating that a previous disciplinary recommendation was never ratified by the party’s leadership.
- National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed explained that Anyanwu’s recent court appeal was to challenge the competence of a past disciplinary committee, not to fight a suspension that “never existed.”
- The party remains deeply divided between the Nyesom Wike-backed camp and a rival group supported by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, with both sides battling for legitimacy through court rulings and INEC petitions.
The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a fresh turn on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as the faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike moved to quash reports that Senator Samuel Anyanwu is under suspension.
Eko Hot Blog reports that responding to recent media reports, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Jungudo Mohammed, described the narrative of Anyanwu’s “suspension” as a distortion of facts.

He clarified that while the Tom Ikimi-led Disciplinary Committee had previously recommended a suspension, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) never reviewed or adopted it.
The clarification follows reports that Senator Anyanwu filed a Notice of Appeal on April 10, 2026, contesting a High Court judgment that dismissed a suit challenging his potential expulsion.
Mohammed explained that the original suit was not about fighting a suspension but was an effort to challenge the legal competence of the committee that made the recommendation.
“The party categorically states that these reports are misleading,” Mohammed said in a press statement.

“The Tom Ikimi Disciplinary Committee’s recommendations had long been jettisoned by the party’s leadership after it was determined that the committee was constituted in violation of the Party’s Constitution.”
The PDP is currently split into two distinct power blocs. One camp, led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), enjoys the support of several sitting governors, while the rival faction under Abdurahman Mohammed is aligned with Nyesom Wike.
The Turaki-led group has recently petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognize the Wike-backed camp.
In defense of their legitimacy, the Wike-aligned faction pointed to a March 2026 Abuja National Convention, which they claim was conducted with full legal backing and monitored by INEC.
They also cited a landmark judgment from the Federal High Court in Ibadan that upheld the composition of their National Caretaker Committee.
In a surprise move, Mohammed announced that the appeal filed by Anyanwu on April 10 has been directed for immediate withdrawal.
He stated that the legal action is “no longer necessary” given that no valid suspension ever stood against the Senator. The party urged stakeholders and the public to ignore “misleading distortions” intended to cause confusion within the opposition ranks.
