EKO HOT BLOG reports that the facility, originally built in 1991 during the regime of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, was created as a premium venue for international events. Wike recently oversaw its complete renovation.
During Tuesday’s commissioning ceremony in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the newly upgraded conference center meets global standards and will require proper maintenance. He stated that all users must pay for its services regardless of their position or status.
Wike made it clear that the management of the renovated International Conference Centre won’t be entrusted to politicians. He also assured the public that there would be no mismanagement of the facility.
After inspecting the center and other projects nearing completion, the Minister confirmed that qualified Nigerian professionals would operate the venue. He specifically mentioned that Julius Berger, the construction firm that handled the renovation, would maintain the facility.
“We’re entrusting the center’s maintenance to Julius Berger, not politicians,” Wike stated. “The Nigerian staff have received proper training to operate all technical aspects, which are actually quite straightforward. Operations will commence immediately after the commissioning.”
