EKO HOT BLOG reports that reports indicate the late airman was detained on May 4 after arriving late to his duty post, which he attributed to health issues. Family members revealed the commanding officer allegedly rejected his explanation for the tardiness.
“We last spoke when he told us he was being detained for lateness due to illness,” a family member stated. “Military rules state detention for minor infractions shouldn’t exceed 24 hours – he should have faced proper procedures if needed, not indefinite confinement. Now we’ve lost him.”
NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed the establishment of a Board of Inquiry during a Tuesday briefing with Daily Trust. He expressed the force’s condolences while emphasizing their commitment to transparency.

“The NAF deeply regrets to confirm Corporal Wulumba’s passing,” Ejodame stated. “We’ve convened a standard Board of Inquiry to determine the circumstances. The Service feels every loss profoundly, and we remain dedicated to personnel welfare and maintaining accountability standards. Updates will follow as investigations progress.”
