- FCT Minister unveils tough stance on contractors
- New strategy introduced for infrastructure maintenance
- Several projects to be launched and commissioned in weeks
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has warned contractors handling Abuja projects that he is ready for a showdown with anyone unwilling to adapt to his new reforms.
According to Eko Hot Blog, Wike spoke during the flag-off of the Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja. He announced that between September 18 and October 16, the FCT Administration will flag off and commission multiple projects while rolling out a new framework for sustaining public infrastructure.

The minister explained that many contractors had become too comfortable with outdated arrangements, particularly in the maintenance of road and street lights, where delays and inflated bills had become the norm. With the new strategy, he said such practices would no longer be tolerated.
“Very soon we are flagging off to light up the whole of Abuja … now that a new strategy has come, they would fight me and I’m fully prepared for the fight,” Wike declared.

He stressed that contractors unwilling to follow the reforms should withdraw early rather than resist change.
According to him, no contractor will be spared, no matter their political connections or long-standing involvement in supplying infrastructure items like generators or street lights.
Wike added that his approach is aimed at achieving transparency, faster delivery, and visible results for residents.
He insisted that Abuja must be an example of efficient infrastructure management, reflecting President Bola Tinubu’s broader agenda of development and accountability.
For ordinary residents, the reforms could mean brighter streets, smoother roads, and quicker service delivery. For contractors, however, the message is clear: it’s either they adapt to the system or risk losing their contracts.
The minister made it clear he is fully prepared to face any opposition that may arise, promising that Abuja’s projects will no longer be a haven for inefficiency or complacency.
