A 25-year-old woman, Victoria Thomas Bowen, avoided jail after admitting to throwing a milkshake at Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, during the general election campaign on June 4. The incident occurred in Clacton as Farage left a pub.
Bowen was sentenced to a 13-week jail term, suspended for 12 months, meaning she won’t go to prison unless she reoffends. Farage criticised the sentence, calling it an example of “two-tier justice” and stating he felt humiliated by the assault.
The court heard Bowen had faced “multiple threats” since the incident. Farage, now MP for Clacton, highlighted the growing security concerns for politicians.
Reform UK secured five seats in the 650-seat parliament following the election, despite winning 14% of the total vote.
