The library, scheduled for launch later this year, will be unveiled during the Centre’s first graduation ceremony and is expected to serve not just students but the broader Epe community.
This project is in line with Epe’s reputation as a bastion of Islamic learning, often captured in the popular saying, “Epe l’oni Qur’an” – meaning “Epe owns the Qur’an.”
Speaking on the development, Mr. Kadri Shamsideen Odedeogboro, Coordinator of the Wusamat Centre, emphasized the Centre’s commitment to making Islamic education accessible to all.
“We have completed all arrangements for a fully-furnished Islamic library, which will be available for students, scholars, and anyone interested in Islamic knowledge.
It is our way of contributing to the intellectual and spiritual growth of the Epe community,” he said.
Mr. Odedeogboro also noted that the Centre provides free tuition and uniforms to all its students.
“Education should never be hindered by financial challenges. At Wusamat, we ensure that every child has access to quality Islamic education at no cost,” he added.
During the Centre’s recent annual Ramadan lecture, Mr. Odedeogboro urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, stressing the importance of integrating both Islamic and Western knowledge systems.
“The future of our children depends on the kind of education we expose them to. It is important they learn both religious and secular subjects to thrive in today’s world,” he stated.
Guest lecturer, Sheikh Abdullahi Adisa, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for early childhood education. “A child’s mind is like a blank slate.
The earlier we instill knowledge and moral values, the better foundation we lay for their future. Parents must be active participants in this journey,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Sheikh Shefiu Tukuru Audu, Naibi-li-Imam of Epe Kingdom, urged parents to remain steadfast in their duty of nurturing responsible and knowledgeable children.
“Proper upbringing is the root of a just society. What we sow in our children today will shape the future of our communities,” he remarked.
The initiative to establish a modern Islamic library reflects a growing trend in Nigeria where Islamic institutions are investing in resources to support the study and practice of Islam.
Many in the community see the Wusamat Centre’s project as a significant step in preserving and promoting Islamic heritage.
“This library is not just for today; it is a legacy for future generations,” Mr. Odedeogboro affirmed. “Our goal is to create an environment where knowledge thrives and where Islamic values are preserved and passed down.”
