Community sources revealed that tensions had been high following the election results.

In response to the incident, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, visited the community on Sunday to assess the extent of the destruction firsthand.

A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the attack and subsequent arrests.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the gruesome murder of Stanley Nwoke, the Youth Leader-elect of Umusi/Olokwa Community in Owerri West LGA. The attack, which occurred on March 15, 2025, at approximately 9:00 PM, left four of his siblings injured and resulted in the destruction of nine houses.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the violence erupted due to disputes over the January 3, 2025, youth election, which Nwoke won. A faction allegedly led by Chinaza Nwachukwu and others, who remain at large, is suspected to be behind the attack.

“In response, CP Aboki Danjuma and his management team visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and those affected by the destruction, assuring them that the Command is committed to delivering justice and preventing future violence.
