The Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification journey has taken a dramatic twist, with Zimbabwe’s national team offered a $150,000 incentive to pull off a major upset.
The Warriors stand to earn the sum if they manage to defeat Nigeria in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
Initially, Zimbabwe’s players, technical crew, and support staff were promised $150,000 by their government for a win over Benin on Thursday. That match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Nigeria’s path to the expanded 2026 World Cup — set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — has been rocky.
After four qualifiers without a win, the Super Eagles found themselves fifth in Group C, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
