Danny Welbeck struck an extra-time winner as Brighton edged past Newcastle in a dramatic FA Cup tie that saw both teams reduced to 10 men.
Newcastle thought they had secured victory in stoppage time, but Fabian Schar’s volley was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

The Magpies had initially taken the lead in the 22nd minute through an Alexander Isak penalty, only for Yankuba Minteh—sold by Newcastle last summer—to equalise just before halftime.
Tensions flared late in the game, with Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon receiving a straight red card in the 83rd minute for pushing Jan Paul van Hecke in the head, ruling him out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey followed him off in added time after collecting a second yellow for a late challenge on Jacob Murphy.
