President Bola Tinubu has praised Team Nigeria following their impressive outing at the 2026 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, where they claimed a record-extending 15th continental title.
In a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Eko Hot Blog gathered that the President said the achievement reflects discipline, consistency, and a strong sense of national pride.

He highlighted the team’s dominance, noting that the women’s squad secured eight gold and two silver medals from ten events, contributing to an overall haul of nine gold, four silver, and three bronze medals across all categories.

Tinubu commended standout athletes including Mercy Genesis, Adijat Idris, Esther Asaolu, and Mercy Adekuoroye for their performances, while also recognising Harrison Onovwiomogbhwo for his success in the men’s freestyle category.
He further acknowledged the contributions of other team members, including Ebierelayefa Andrew, Stephen Akintewe, Dideikemei Erefagha, Solomon Ulabo, and Saviour Egoli, stressing that such victories are the result of collective effort.
